To make things easier to understand, we will explain how to use It’s and Its, and give three examples for each. Here goes!
It’s is a contraction of It is, or it has
- It’s been raining all morning (It has)
- It’s my birthday tomorrow (It is)
- It’s not important (It is)
Its shows possession
- The cat drank its milk (the milk belongs to the cat)
- The car passed its MOT (the MOT belongs to the car)
- The dog chased its tail (the tail belongs to the dog)
